Description

Indulge in the comfort of creamy cheesy scalloped potatoes, the perfect blend of tender potatoes, rich cream, and melty cheese—ideal for family gatherings and cozy dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large Potatoes, thinly sliced (Yukon Gold or Russet recommended)
  • 2 cups Heavy Cream
  • 2 cups Sharp Cheddar Cheese, grated
  • 1 medium Onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Butter (for greasing and making the sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons Flour (for thickening the sauce)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Optional: Paprika for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the flour and whisk continuously until golden—about 1 minute. Gradually pour in the heavy cream, whisking until the mixture thickens. Season with salt and pepper, and remove from heat.
  4. Begin layering the sliced potatoes, onions, and cheese in the greased baking dish. Pour half of the cream sauce over the first layer.
  5. Repeat until all ingredients are used, finishing with the remaining sauce and a sprinkle of cheese on top.
  6. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before serving. Garnish with a dusting of paprika if desired.

Notes

Choose Yukon Gold for a creamy texture or Russet for fluffiness. Don’t rush the sauce; a well-thickened sauce is crucial for consistency.
