Description

Delightful cookies that capture the essence of traditional Texas Sheet Cake, chewy and topped with rich chocolate icing.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar (for icing)
  • 1/4 cup butter (for icing)
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder (for icing)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your baking sheet.
  2. Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in one bowl.
  3. Cream together the butter and sugar in another bowl until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla and buttermilk.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. Drop tablespoon-sized balls onto the baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes until set but still soft.
  8. Prepare the icing while baking: melt butter, mix in cocoa and powdered sugar, then add a splash of milk and vanilla.
  9. Cool the cookies for a few minutes before drizzling the icing on top.

Notes

For a fun presentation, stack cookies on a plate and sprinkle with confectioners’ sugar. Serve warm with milk or ice cream.
