Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Cheddar, Gruyère, or your choice)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Optional: herbs or spices (like paprika or garlic powder)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Lightly flour your surface and roll out the puff pastry sheet.
  3. Cut the pastry into strips, about 1 inch wide.
  4. Mix the shredded cheese with salt, pepper, and any optional herbs or spices in a bowl.
  5. Evenly sprinkle the cheese mixture over half of each pastry strip.
  6. Fold the other half of each strip over the cheese and gently press to seal.
  7. Brush the tops of the folded strips with the beaten egg for a beautiful golden finish.
  8. Arrange the cheese straws on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until they turn a delightful golden brown.
  10. Enjoy them warm or at room temperature.
