Description

A comforting and creamy dish made with wide egg noodles, sautéed onions, and sour cream, perfect for weeknight dinners.


Ingredients

  • 1 8-oz bag wide egg noodles
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3/4 cup hot pasta water (reserved from noodle cooking)
  • 1 packet Lipton Onion Soup Mix
  • 1 pint sour cream
  • Chopped fresh chives (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the wide egg noodles in a pot of liberally salted boiling water, following the package instructions until they’re al dente. Reserve 3/4 cup of the hot pasta water, then drain the noodles well.
  2. Heat the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 5-7 minutes, or until they turn light golden brown.
  3. Season the onions with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  4. Pour in the reserved hot pasta water and stir in the Lipton Onion Soup Mix. Cook over medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes, or until the dried onions become soft.
  5. Remove from heat, and add the drained noodles and sour cream to the onion mixture. Gently stir until everything is evenly combined.
  6. Garnish with chopped fresh chives if desired, serving hot.

Notes

For a healthier version, swap in whole wheat noodles, or try flavored butter for a unique twist.
