Description

Ingredients

  • 1 pound flank or skirt steak
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 8 tostada shells
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • ½ cup diced red onion
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • For salsa: 2 medium tomatoes, diced
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and minced
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Marinate the steak: In a bowl, mix olive oil, lime juice, minced garlic, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Coat the steak well, then let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat your grill or skillet: Get it hot over medium-high heat. Cook the marinated steak for about 4-6 minutes on each side for desired doneness, then let it rest for a few minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.
  3. Prepare the salsa: Combine the diced tomatoes, red onion, jalapeño, lime juice, and salt in a bowl. Mix well.
  4. Assemble the tostadas: Start with a tostada shell, layer on the sliced carne asada, followed by lettuce, avocado, diced tomatoes, red onion, and cilantro.

Notes

Feel free to use chicken or pork instead of beef. Add smoked paprika or chipotle powder for extra flavor.
