Description

A whimsical blend of sweet and tangy, these Lemon Sweet Rolls are perfect for brightening up any morning or special occasion.


Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup sugar (for filling)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for icing)
  • Extra lemon zest for garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast in a large bowl.
  2. Whisk together the milk, melted butter, egg, lemon zest, and lemon juice in another bowl.
  3. Gradually combine the wet ingredients with the dry mix. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth.
  4. Let the dough rise in a warm location for about 60 minutes, or until it doubles in size.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread the lemon vanilla sugar filling over the top.
  6. Carefully roll the dough tightly and slice it into individual rolls.
  7. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the rolls are golden.
  9. Beat together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and milk until smooth and creamy for the icing.
  10. Drizzle the icing over the warm rolls and top with extra lemon zest for garnish.

Notes

For a dairy-free option, substitute almond milk, and gluten-free flour blend can be used for those with sensitivities.
