Description

A warm and flavorful Korean dish featuring golden tofu in a spicy, sweet sauce that’s easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 block firm tofu
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 scallions, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 cup water
  • Cooked rice for serving

Instructions

  1. Start by pressing the block of firm tofu under a weight for about 15 minutes to remove excess moisture. When done, cut the tofu into cubes.
  2. In a pan, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium heat.
  3. Add the tofu cubes to the hot oil and pan-fry for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown on all sides.
  4. While the tofu is frying, mix together in a separate bowl: 3 tablespoons soy sauce, 2 tablespoons gochujang, 2 tablespoons sugar, 1 tablespoon sesame oil, and 1 cup water.
  5. Once the tofu is browned, pour the sauce you prepared over it in the pan. Stir gently to coat the tofu.
  6. Add the minced garlic and chopped scallions to the pan, mixing them in well.
  7. Allow the dish to simmer for 10-15 minutes, letting the sauce thicken and envelop the tofu beautifully.
  8. Serve hot over a bed of cooked rice for a complete meal.

Notes

For a spicier kick, adjust the amount of gochujang to suit your taste. Store leftovers in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to three days.
