Description

A comforting and simple recipe for soft, fluffy homemade Amish white bread, perfect for cozy evenings and family gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the sugar in warm water and stir in the yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes bubbly.
  2. Combine the flour and salt in a large mixing bowl. Pour in the yeast mixture along with the vegetable oil.
  3. Mix the ingredients together until a dough begins to form.
  4. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for approximately 10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm area until it has doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Punch down the dough to release the air. Shape it into a loaf and place it into a greased loaf pan.
  7. Cover again and allow it to rise for an additional 30-40 minutes.
  8. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Bake the loaf for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  10. Allow the bread to cool before slicing.

Notes

To store leftovers, wrap in plastic wrap or place in an airtight container. Store at room temperature for 2-3 days or freeze for longer storage.
