Description
A comforting and simple recipe for soft, fluffy homemade Amish white bread, perfect for cozy evenings and family gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water (110°F)
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
- Dissolve the sugar in warm water and stir in the yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes bubbly.
- Combine the flour and salt in a large mixing bowl. Pour in the yeast mixture along with the vegetable oil.
- Mix the ingredients together until a dough begins to form.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for approximately 10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm area until it has doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Punch down the dough to release the air. Shape it into a loaf and place it into a greased loaf pan.
- Cover again and allow it to rise for an additional 30-40 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the loaf for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Allow the bread to cool before slicing.
