Description
A comforting dish featuring flavorful hamburger steaks topped with a rich and creamy dill sauce, perfect for weeknight dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1.3 pounds ground beef
- 4 tbsp breadcrumbs
- 1 yellow onion (grated)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp heavy cream
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 yellow onion (diced)
- 2 garlic cloves (minced)
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- ½ cup low sodium chicken broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp chopped dill (plus more for serving)
Instructions
- Start by making the hamburger steaks. In a large bowl, grate the onion and then add the ground beef, breadcrumbs, salt, black pepper, heavy cream, and egg. Combine everything gently using your hands until just mixed.
- Divide the beef mixture into four equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball and then flatten it into a patty about ¾ inch thick. Set these aside.
- Finely chop the second yellow onion, mince the garlic cloves, and chop the dill.
- Heat the olive oil and unsalted butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the hamburger steaks and cook them for 4-5 minutes on each side until they reach a nice brown color. Transfer to a clean plate.
- In the same skillet, add the chopped garlic and diced onion. Reduce the heat to low and sauté for about 2 minutes until fragrant.
- Sprinkle in salt, black pepper, and flour, stirring until fully incorporated. Gradually pour in the chicken broth while scraping up any brown bits on the bottom of the skillet.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer and allow it to cook for 2 minutes.
- Next, add in the heavy cream and dill, stirring until it comes to a boil. Let it simmer for about 1-2 minutes until the sauce slightly thickens.
- Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet and simmer for another 5-6 minutes until they are heated through and no longer pink in the center.
- For the finishing touch, garnish with additional chopped dill and freshly grated black pepper before serving hot.
Notes
Be gentle when mixing the beef mixture to avoid tough patties; overmixing can lead to density. Make sure your skillet is hot enough before adding the meat to achieve a nice crust.
