Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup Guinness beer
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup Irish cream liqueur
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two round 9-inch cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- In another bowl, mix the melted unsalted butter with the Guinness until they’re perfectly blended. Add in the eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract, stirring until smooth.
- Gradually introduce the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, combining gently until just mixed.
- Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then carefully transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the buttercream, beat softened butter with powdered sugar until it’s smooth and fluffy. Gradually mix in the Irish cream liqueur until you achieve your desired consistency.
- Once the cakes are cooled, frost them generously with the Irish buttercream. Slice, serve, and indulge!
