Instructions
- Preheat your oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9×9-inch baking pan by greasing and flouring it or lining it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Prepare the cake batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and egg until light and fluffy. Add the coffee, buttermilk, and vanilla, blending until smooth. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet until combined.
- Bake the cake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes. A toothpick inserted in the center should come out clean. Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Make the caramel sauce: In a saucepan, combine the brown sugar, butter, and heavy cream. Stir continuously over medium heat until it simmers. Let it simmer for about 3-4 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract, salt, and brewed coffee, then set aside.
