Description

Delicious and healthy savory rolls wrapped in tender napa cabbage leaves, filled with a flavorful mixture of ground meat, mushrooms, and scallions, topped with a rich sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 napa cabbage leaves
  • 1/2 lb ground chicken or pork
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped scallions
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (for sauce)
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp mirin or rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (slurry)
  • Chopped scallions (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cabbage: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Gently add the napa cabbage leaves and boil for about 2 minutes, just until softened. Drain and set them aside to cool.
  2. Make the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken or pork with mushrooms, scallions, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix well until combined.
  3. Roll the Cabbage: Take a softened cabbage leaf and lay it flat. Place a spoonful of your filling near the base and roll it tightly, just like a burrito.
  4. Steam the Rolls: Arrange the rolls in a steamer basket and steam for 10 to 12 minutes or until the filling is fully cooked.
  5. Prepare the Sauce: While the rolls are steaming, combine 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, oyster sauce, mirin (or rice vinegar), and sugar in a small saucepan. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  6. Thicken the Sauce: Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for about one minute, or until the sauce has thickened.
  7. Plate and Garnish: Once the rolls are steamed, drizzle the sauce over the cabbage rolls and garnish with chopped scallions before serving.
