Description

Baking your own ciabatta bread is a delightful experience resulting in a rustic Italian loaf with an airy crumb and crispy crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups water (room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, yeast, and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Pour in the water and olive oil, stirring until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rise at room temperature for 12 to 18 hours.
  4. Sprinkle flour on a clean work surface and gently turn the dough out.
  5. Shape it into a rectangle and fold it in thirds, like a letter.
  6. Allow it to rest for another 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 450ยฐF (230ยฐC).
  8. Place a baking tray in the oven to heat up.
  9. Shape the rested dough into loaves or rolls and transfer them to parchment-lined baking sheets.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and sound hollow when tapped.
  11. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

For added flavor, consider using flavored olive oils or adding herbs and cheese to the dough.
