Description
A simple and delicious apple tart with a buttery crust, perfect for family gatherings or holiday feasts.
Ingredients
Scale
- Prepared pie crust
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 3 pounds apples (about 9 cups, cored and sliced)
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon water
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400ยฐF (200ยฐC) and prepare a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt the butter.
- Add the apples, brown sugar, granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg to the skillet. Toss everything together well.
- Reduce the heat, cover the skillet, and cook for about 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally until the apples are tender. Once done, remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- Roll out the prepared pie crust into approximately a 14-inch circle. Place the dough on a round baking stone or a baking pan.
- Arrange the cooled apples in the center of the dough, leaving a 2-inch border around the edge.
- Fold the dough over the edge of the apples gently, pressing to seal.
- Brush the crust with a little water and sprinkle the remaining granulated sugar on top.
- Bake for 45 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
- Serve warm, ideally with a scoop of ice cream.
Notes
For extra flavor, try adding vanilla extract or a splash of rum to the filling. Mix sweet and tart apple varieties for depth.
