Description

Delightfully crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, these homemade Belgian waffles are perfect for any breakfast occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs, separated
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Whisk together the egg yolks, buttermilk, vegetable oil (or melted butter), and vanilla extract in another bowl.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
  5. Beat the egg whites on medium-high speed until stiff peaks form in a clean, dry bowl.
  6. Fold the beaten egg whites into the batter gently.
  7. Grease the waffle iron lightly with cooking spray or oil.
  8. Pour the recommended amount of batter onto the hot waffle iron and spread it evenly.
  9. Cook until the waffles are golden brown and crisp—about 4 to 6 minutes.
  10. Remove the waffles and keep them warm in a single layer on a baking sheet in a low-temperature oven.
  11. Repeat with the remaining batter.

Notes

Serve with whipped cream, fresh berries, and maple syrup for a classic treat. Waffles can be frozen for longer storage.
