Description

A delightful pastry combining flaky puff pastry, a creamy filling, and vibrant berries, perfect for brunch or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 teaspoon water (for egg wash)
  • 1 ยฝ tablespoons turbinado sugar (for topping)
  • 4 ounces cream cheese (at room temperature)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons lemon zest
  • 1 ยฝ cups blackberries (fresh or other berries)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • ยฝ cup powdered sugar (sifted)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Start by thawing your puff pastry on the counter for about 15โ€“30 minutes. Preheat your oven to 400ยฐF (200ยฐC).
  2. For the cream cheese filling, mix the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract in a bowl with a fork until well combined; set it aside.
  3. Once the dough is defrosted, dust your clean counter with flour and roll the puff pastry out slightly. Cut it into 6 equal rectangles using a sharp knife.
  4. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the cut puff pastry. Using a knife, score a ยฝ-inch border around each rectangle without cutting all the way through.
  5. Poke a few holes inside the pastry with a fork to prevent puffing.
  6. Place a tablespoon of the cream cheese filling into the center of each pastry.
  7. In a small bowl, toss together blackberries, sugar, and lemon juice. Gently place a spoonful of this mixture on top of the cream cheese filling for each Danish.
  8. Whisk the egg and water in a bowl. Brush the egg wash along the edges of the pastry, then sprinkle turbinado sugar over the edges.
  9. Bake the pastries for 12โ€“14 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. Let them cool on a wire rack.
  10. Finally, make the lemon-vanilla icing by whisking together the powdered sugar, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Drizzle this over the pastries when theyโ€™ve cooled slightly.

Notes

Feel free to swap in your favorite berries or try a dairy-free cream cheese for a twist.
