Description
A comforting dish of tender, juicy cubed steak smothered in rich, creamy gravy, perfect for family gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6–8 pieces cubed steak
- 1 cup milk
- Salt & pepper (to taste)
- 2 cups flour (plus an additional 1/3 cup for gravy)
- Cooking oil or shortening (for frying)
- 1/3 cup oil from frying the steaks
- 4 cups beef broth
Instructions
- Marinate the steak: Pour the milk over the cubed steaks in a dish. Let soak for at least 15 minutes.
- Prepare the flour mixture: In a shallow dish, combine 2 cups of flour with salt and pepper. Set aside.
- Breading setup: Lay a large piece of foil on the counter to arrange your breaded steaks.
- Season and coat: Drain the milk from the steaks, season, coat in flour mixture, and rest for 10-15 minutes.
- Fry the steaks: Heat oil in a pan, then fry 3-4 coated steaks until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes each side.
- Make the gravy: Add 1/3 cup flour to the oil, whisk in beef broth, and cook until thickened.
- Serve: Pour gravy over the steaks or keep warm in the pan with the gravy.
Notes
Watch the oil temperature for optimal frying results. Let the flour rest for a thicker coating.
