Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (or turkey for a leaner option)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or a blend of your favorites)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup (or a homemade alternative)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon mustard (yellow or Dijon)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, sautéing for another 3-4 minutes.
  4. Mix the cooked beef mixture with the cream of mushroom soup, milk, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  5. Layer the beef mixture in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle half the cheddar and mozzarella cheese over it.
  6. Top with a layer of frozen tater tots.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the tater tots.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes until tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
  9. Serve hot, garnished with optional toppings like diced pickles, ketchup, or mustard.

For vegetarian, swap the beef for lentils; for lactose-free, consider non-dairy milk and cheese.
