Ingredients

  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup brown sugar (for icing)
  • 1/2 cup butter (for icing)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour your cake pan.
  2. Cream together brown sugar, granulated sugar, and butter until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl.
  5. Mix the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture, alternating with buttermilk, starting and ending with dry ingredients.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool completely before icing.
  8. Melt butter in a saucepan, add brown sugar and heavy cream, stirring until gentle boil.
  9. Cook for 2 minutes, remove from heat, and stir in vanilla extract.
  10. Drizzle icing over the cooled cake.
