Description

A delightful dessert combining the comforting flavors of banana bread with the fudgy decadence of brownies.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (240 ml) sour cream (or plain Greek yogurt)
  • ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 ripe bananas (mashed, about 2 cups)
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (60 g) chopped walnuts (optional)
  • ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 4 cups (480 g) powdered sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 3 tablespoons milk (more if needed for spreading)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the granulated sugar, sour cream, and softened butter in a large mixing bowl until fluffy. Beat in the eggs, mashed bananas, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. Whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually add these dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined. If using walnuts, fold them in gently.
  4. Pour the batter into your prepared pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the brownies cool in the pan on a wire rack.
  5. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat until light golden brown, about 4–5 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly before whisking in the powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth and spreadable.
  6. Spread the frosting generously on top of the cooled brownies. Cut into squares or bars and serve!

Notes

These brownies can be paired with ice cream or whipped cream for an indulgent treat. Best stored in an airtight container at room temperature.
