Description
A deliciously warm Apple Streusel Bread featuring a tender, spiced loaf topped with a crumbly, buttery streusel.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup sour cream (or plain Greek yogurt)
- 1 ½ cups peeled and diced apples (about 2 medium apples)
- For the Streusel Topping: ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ⅓ cup brown sugar (packed)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
- Optional Glaze: ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1 – 2 tablespoons milk (or cream)
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper for easy removal.
- Make the streusel by mixing the flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a small bowl. Cut in the cold butter until it resembles coarse crumbs. Set aside.
- Mix dry ingredients by whisking together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a medium bowl.
- Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy. Gradually add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then add the vanilla extract.
- Combine the sour cream into the mixture, then gradually add the dry ingredients until just combined. Fold in the diced apples gently.
- Assemble by spreading half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan, then sprinkling half of the streusel over it. Add the remaining batter on top and finish with the remaining streusel.
- Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool the bread for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack. Drizzle optional glaze over the cooled bread if desired.
Notes
Store leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days, or freeze tightly wrapped for longer storage. Reheat in the oven or slice and toast as desired.
