Delightful turnovers filled with a spiced apple mixture, wrapped in flaky puff pastry, perfect for any occasion.

- 1 pound (2 sheets) puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
- 2 large (or 4 small) Granny Smith apples (peeled, cored, and diced)
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1/8 cup brown sugar
- 1/8 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)
- 2/3 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon milk (for glaze)
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat, then add the diced apples. Sautรฉ for about 5 minutes until they start to soften.
- Reduce the heat to low and mix in the brown sugar, granulated sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Cook for an additional 3-5 minutes until the apples are nice and soft.
- Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool completely.
- Roll out each puff pastry sheet into an 11-inch square on a lightly floured surface.
- Slice each sheet into four equal squares using a pizza cutter.
- Place 1-2 tablespoons of the cooled apple filling in the center of each square.
- Whisk together the egg and 1 tablespoon of milk in a small bowl, then brush the egg wash on two adjacent sides of each square.
- Fold one corner over to meet the opposite corner, creating a triangle. Seal and crimp edges with a fork.
- Cut 2-3 small slits in the top of each pastry for steam to escape, then brush the tops with the egg wash.
- Preheat your oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC) and chill the pastries in the fridge for 15 minutes.
- Line two 13×9-inch baking sheets with parchment paper and space the turnovers about 1 inch apart.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and flaky.
- Mix the powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon of milk in a small bowl for the glaze. Drizzle over warm pastries once out of the oven.
Notes
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a perfect treat. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
