Description

Delightful, soft, and fluffy rolls packed with rich chocolate and bold espresso flavors, perfect for brunch or snacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast (1 packet)
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk (warm)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon espresso powder
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon instant espresso powder
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons brewed espresso
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Instructions

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 4 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. Warm the Milk: In a microwave-safe bowl, heat milk until warm but not hot (about 95°F).
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: Add melted butter, eggs, and espresso powder to the warm milk and whisk until combined.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
  5. Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, ensuring it’s smooth and elastic.
  6. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, roughly 1-2 hours.
  7. Mix Filling Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine softened butter, sugar, cocoa powder, and espresso powder, mixing until smooth.
  8. Roll the Dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a 12×18-inch rectangle.
  9. Spread the Filling: Evenly spread the cocoa filling over the rolled dough, then sprinkle with chocolate chips.
  10. Roll Up: Starting from the long side, roll the dough tightly into a log, cutting it into 12 equal pieces.
  11. Second Rise: Place rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, cover, and let rise again for 30 minutes.
  12. Preheat Oven: While the rolls rise, preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C).
  13. Bake: Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown on top.
  14. Cool: Allow to cool slightly before glazing.
  15. Prepare the Glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, brewed espresso, and milk in a bowl until smooth. Drizzle it over the warm rolls.

Notes

Ensure fresh yeast for best results. Knead dough well for optimum texture.
