- About 2 pounds butternut squash
- 1 cup heavy cream
- Fresh sage leaves
- 1 cup Gruyère or Parmesan cheese, shredded
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Peel the butternut squash and slice it into thin rounds.
- Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Stir in the fresh sage for another minute.
- Layer half of the sliced butternut squash in a greased baking dish, seasoning with salt and pepper.
- Pour half of the heavy cream over the squash and sprinkle generously with cheese.
- Repeat with the remaining squash, cream, and cheese.
- Finish with a layer of bread crumbs and extra cheese if desired.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes until the top is golden and the squash is tender.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. This dish can be frozen before baking.
