Description
A culinary adventure bringing the rich, aromatic flavors of Indian cuisine with tender chicken marinated in yogurt and spices, fluffy basmati rice, and creamy sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 500g chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 1 cup yogurt
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 teaspoons garam masala
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Marinate the Chicken: Combine the chicken pieces with yogurt, minced garlic, grated ginger, garam masala, cumin, and salt in a bowl. Let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least one hour.
- Sauté Onions: In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they turn golden brown, about 8-10 minutes.
- Cook the Chicken: Add the marinated chicken to the pot and cook until it turns nicely browned, stirring occasionally.
- Add Tomatoes: Toss in the chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften and break down, about 5 minutes.
- Prepare the Rice: In a separate pot, cook the basmati rice until it’s about 70% done. Drain it well and set it aside for layering.
- Layer the Dish: In the same pot with the chicken, layer the partially cooked rice on top. Pour in the heavy cream and gently mix without disturbing the layers too much. Cover the pot.
- Final Cooking: Cook on low heat for 20-30 minutes, allowing the rice to finish cooking and absorb all the delightful flavors.
- Garnish and Serve: Once cooked, remove from heat and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving hot.
Notes
Marinate overnight for more robust flavors. Be cautious not to overcook the rice; it should be firm in the initial cooking.
