Description

Soft on the inside and crusty on the outside, these mini baguettes are perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (about 110°F/45°C)
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water and sugar, then stir in the yeast. Allow this mixture to sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Create a well in the center, then pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Bring it together: Mix until the dough starts to form. Then, on a floured surface, knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it feels smooth and elastic.
  4. First rise: Place the kneaded dough into a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm environment. In about 60 minutes, the dough should double in size.
  5. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 450°F (230°C) to prepare for baking those lovely baguettes.
  6. Shape the dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently, divide it into smaller portions, and shape each into a mini baguette.
  7. Prepare for baking: Arrange the shaped baguettes on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  8. Second rise: Allow the baguettes to rise for another 30 minutes while you eagerly await that delicious aroma.
  9. Score the tops: Before you pop them into the oven, make a few diagonal slashes on top of each baguette with a sharp knife to allow for steam escape.
  10. Bake: Place your tray in the oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes until they are golden brown.
  11. Cool and enjoy: Let them cool slightly before slicing into them!

Notes

For added flavor, experiment with herbs or whole wheat flour.
