Description

A comforting and creamy dish featuring caramelized onions and fluffy rice, perfect for any weeknight meal or family gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup long-grain or basmati rice
  • 2 cups beef or vegetable broth
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup cream or sour cream
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Grated cheese (optional, Parmesan or Gruyère)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add sliced onions, and let them cook until they are caramelized and golden brown, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Stir in the rice, cooking for an additional 2 minutes to toast it slightly.
  4. Pour in the broth, bring everything to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed, around 15-20 minutes.
  5. Once the rice is fully cooked, stir in your chosen cream or sour cream and season with salt and pepper.
  6. Serve warm, sprinkling grated cheese on top if desired.

Notes

Garnish with fresh herbs for added color and flavor. Can be stored in the fridge for 3-4 days or frozen for about a month.
