Description

Fun and vibrant Cookie Monster-themed cinnamon rolls, perfect for delightful occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup Warm milk (or plant-based milk for a vegan option)
  • 2 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 large Egg (or flax egg for vegan)
  • 1 large Egg yolk
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted butter (melted; dairy-free alternative works)
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour (or 1:1 gluten-free mix)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • A few drops Blue gel food coloring
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup Crushed chocolate sandwich cookies (like Oreos)
  • 1/2 cup Mini chocolate chips
  • 4 ounces Cream cheese (softened)
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted butter
  • 2 cups Powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Crushed chocolate cookies
  • Extra mini chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Prepare the dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the activated yeast, sugar, egg, egg yolk, melted butter, vanilla extract, and blue food coloring. Gradually mix in the flour and salt until a dough forms.
  3. Knead: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Make the filling: In a bowl, combine all the filling ingredients until well mixed. Set aside.
  5. Roll out the dough: Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle.
  6. Spread the filling: Evenly spread the filling over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  7. Roll and slice: Roll the dough tightly from the long side, then slice into 12 rolls.
  8. Second rise: Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise again for about 30 minutes.
  9. Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Frost: While the rolls are baking, beat together the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Once the rolls have cooled for a few minutes, frost generously.
  11. Top it off: Sprinkle with crushed chocolate cookies and extra mini chocolate chips if desired.

Notes

For extra flair, serve with a drizzle of frosting or chocolate sauce. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerated for up to a week.
