- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl until well combined.
- Add the cold, cubed butter, and mix using your fingers or a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
- In a separate bowl, mix the whole milk and vanilla extract together.
- Pour the milk mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined; do not overmix.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead gently to bring it together.
- Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick and cut it into wedges.
- Place the scones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Optional: Brush the tops with an egg wash for a golden finish.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly, then enjoy!
